In just a few days… NSTT will host the final event for the 2019 season. Members and friends will enjoy a guided walk at recently - re-opened - Fort Snelling State Park on Saturday, October 26th. The State Park is located at 101 Snelling Lake Road, St. Paul, MN 55111, and can be accessed via the Post Road exit off Highway 5.
Registration opens at 9:30am at the Visitor Center. Announcements are at 9:45am. The approximate start times for the guided walks are:
10:00 Scooters
10:15 Batsoutofhell
10:45 Shufflers (5km loop only)
Which Group Is Right for You?
Scooters - walk at average pace, stopping as desired
Shufflers – will walk one 5Km loop at a slower pace, stopping for photos and admiring the fall colors
Batsoutahell – well, just don’t get in the way of these folks…
Rain, Rain, Go Away, While Saturday’s forecast is for a beautiful, dry, sunny, day, the rain that we’ve had, that’s coming now, and that is predicted for early in the week, is making the trails wet. NSTT recommends that you wear waterproof shoes/boots. NOT TENNIS SHOES. Proper footwear will help keep your feet dry and sure footed on potentially wet trails.
The Trails consist of two 5km loops. One 5km loop will go around Snelling Lake with views of the Minnesota River. We’re planning a 5km trail to Pike Island. However, due to all the rain we’ve had, we won’t know until Saturday whether the trail to Pike Island will be passable. While the second trail may turn out to be a surprise, we guarantee that it will cover beautiful territory.
Eat, eat, eat. The only thing that’s possibly more fun than walking with friends is sharing a meal with friends. After the walk stay and share a potluck lunch. Bring along your favorite dish to share and your own beverage. NSTT will provide the paper products and eating utensils.
Annual Meeting. NSTT will host a short annual meeting following the potluck. We’ll learn the dates and locations of our 2020 walks. We’ll also be voting for the 2020 Board Members. Anyone who’s interested in finding out about being a Board Member is invited to contact Wally Swanson, at swansonw@frontiernet.net. (I hear they have lots of fun.)
