Historic Fort Snelling Archaeology Update July 31, 2019

Updated: Aug 27, 2019

By John Croman @ Kare 11

This is your weekly notice of the status of archaeology at Historic Fort Snelling @ B’dote.

Archaeologists continued excavations in the bus turn-around just east of Building 17 last week and this week. They concluded the planned excavations yesterday and will be working in the lab and drafting a report for the rest of this week.

No further archaeological work is planned at Fort Snelling at this time, so this will be the last weekly update you will receive. As planning for the Fort Snelling Revitalization Project continues, additional areas for excavation may be identified. You will be notified before any further archaeological work begins at the site, and weekly updates will resume when that work is underway.

If you have any questions about the archaeology that has been done, feel free to contact Ken Kornack at kenneth.kornack@mnhs.org or myself at patricia.emerson@mnhs.org.

Sincerely,

Pat Emerson: Director, Archaeology Director
