Take a two-hour walking tour with a Fort Snelling Foundation guide and learn about the real-life mystery of a young woman's murder at Fort Snelling in 1940. This tour will cover some rough terrain and is not appropriate for young children.
Note: This tour begins at the headquarters building (clock tower) across from the ball fields on the corner of Taylor and Colville Avenues. The headquarters building is a quarter mile from the Fort Snelling light rail station.
Celebrate the United States' birthday at Historic Fort Snelling and explore the history of freedom in 19th century America. Just like in the 1800s, hear cannon and muskets salutes, watch a military dress parade, listen to fife and drum music and attend a mock battle.
But not all Americans viewed Independence Day this way 200 years ago. Visit interactive learning stations around the fort and learn about the struggles for freedom and independence for several different groups of Americans—such as enslaved people, American Indians and women—while exploring the question "What does freedom mean today?"
