Fort Snelling State Park has a new manager, announced at the beginning of the New Year. Kelli Bruns has been appointed superintendent, replacing Larry Peterson who retired last year. We thank Larry Peterson for all he has provided not only to the Friends of Fort Snelling and State Park, but the entire Fort Snelling Area. We also welcome Kelli and are looking forward to our partnership with her as we move forward.

Kelli Bruns is a Wisconsin native originally from Sheboygan. After attending Sheboygan North High School, Kelli worked for the Wisconsin and California Conservation Corps before obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. Kelli received a double major in Forest Management and Forest Recreation.

During her undergraduate studies she began her career with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as a Limited Term Employee at the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit primarily working on the trail systems and maintenance crews. Kelli also performed Visitor Service and completed an interpretive internship with the Forest Naturalist. In 2003, Kelli was hired with the Wisconsin Bureau of Parks and Recreation as a Park Manager Trainee and worked at the Kettle Moraine State Forest-Northern Unit and Kohler-Andrae State Parks. In July of 2003 Kelli was hired as the Park Manager at Kohler-Andrae and remained in that position for eight years. In August of 2010, Kelli became the Superintendent at Willow River State Park where she supervised Kinnickinnic State Park and Willow River State Park. In August of 2011, Kelli returned to the eastern side of Wisconsin as the Superintendent at Peninsula State Park where she led a large team for the past five years.

Kelli and her husband John, who is a Chiropractor, have three sons Ben (20), Jack (10) and Patrick (7). The family has relocated to the Lakeville area and are very excited about the new opportunities to work with Minnesota State Parks and Trails, especially as the new Park Manager at Fort Snelling State Park.
